Who goes down? Bixler? Or one of the extra pitchers, even before the Braves series? I suspect the latter. Probably a lefty. Since WW is out of options, it may be Abad.

I've got to think they didn't like what they saw out of Abad the other night.

Tulo torched him. But then again, Tulo touched WW for a triple. Neither one of them would have faced Tulo had the situation been any different than it was. Abad faced him because we were losing by a run late. WW faced him because we were winning. Neither of them looked very good to me.

The BIG thing is that he's a right-handed hitter on a bench dominated by lefties (NTTAWWT).

??  There's only one lefty on the bench.

My bad. I meant Shuck (who is in the minors), who would otherwise had been the fifth outfielder.

He's a RH bat with pop who can play all 3 OF positions (so it seems). Which makes him unique on the Astros roster at present. I'm guessing he may platoon some with Schafer and/or Bogusevic.

Quote
Maxwell, 28, spent his entire 2011 season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees system, hitting .260 with 16 home runs and 35 RBIs. He appeared in 27 games for the Yankees this spring, hitting .310 with 11 RBIs before being designated for assignment on Wednesday.

"Just looking at what he did last year in limited playing time in Triple-A -- 16 homers in 48 games -- he's got some speed and can play the outfield, all three positions," general manager Jeff Luhnow said. "We had our scouts look at him this spring and we suspected he might be available, and when he became available it was a pretty easy decision for us."

On the whole, I'm very happy to see the team making these kinds of moves.

I agree. It shows that they're really also paying attention to what can help the team now too instead of just building for the future.

Abad has been optioned to OkC per McTaggart tweet.

And there was much rejoicing.  (Yay!)

This is consistent with Mills' statement that 13 pitchers was not a long-term proposition.

Long enough to give up a dinger to Tulowitzki.

"Dinger" is a bit of an understatement.
