Scott now has 10 singles + 1 double on the year.  Has an additional 6 walks.  Of the 17 times on base, he has scored 8 runs.  He is now hitting an even .500 on the year.

Cue the Jefferson's theme song if he keeps this up.
He is also 6 of 7 in SB attempts.

Might he need more of a challenge?

Small sample size and he is still only 21 ... I doubt they will rush him, though he may be a candidate for a July/August promotion if he keeps it up like this.

I feel like we don't even know what "JB Shuck-type numbers" means yet, at least as far as MLB goes.

Another solid start for Folty tonight--7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BBs, 6 Ks.

Worth Noting--Thru three starts last year 17 IP, 17 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 5 BBs, 8 Ks
                    Thru three starts this year 15.2 IP, 14 H, 8 R, 3 ER, 5 BBs, 18 Ks

He seems to be missing a lot more bats this year, and getting less ground balls--3.42 (2011), 2.00 (2012). I cannot confirm this because I have not been at the games, but the lower ground ball rate could be a very good thing. It most likely means he is using his four-seamer up in the zone a lot more often.
He is clearly getting a lot more swings and misses with the 18/5 K/BB ratio.

IMO this is a good sign for him.

Kvasnicka went 0-4 with 4 K's last night.  Today 0-3.  He is now 3 for 39 for the season with 15Ks.  WTF.

He forgets that he's supposed to swing at the ball when he's not catching.  He'll get there.

On another note, Jonas Dufek failed to make it out of the second inning today even though he did not allow a hit.  (2K, 2BB in 1 2/3) ... any word on the reason he was lifted?  Ejected??  Injured??

Looks like he was hit by a liner from the game log.  He was able to throw out the batter, so he wasn't completely incapacitated.

I was about to post on that.  Here's a quote Fred Nelson had about him the other day:

Quote
"I wasn't overly impressed with him in the Penn League last year, but we're always cautious about that because he's pitched a lot of innings and guys are tired from multiples years of summer league and the college season," Nelson said. "Guys get into pro ball and they start to pitch every fifth day and they're already gassed. I think Tropeano came back and we've seen better velocity out of him. It's made him a very interesting person to watch."

Thanks for the link AF76.  The quotes from Nelson are refreshingly candid.  I was wondering the same thing as JG.  I assume putting up those numbers takes more than just a plus change, but at that level, I suppose it is possible.

As far as I can tell, he's never been a hard thrower. A Baseball America article from about this time last year had him around 88-91, and that's as high as I can find.

In the realm of minor accolades, Tropeano was named BA's prospect pitcher of the day.

Lyles was hitting 93 at Nashville last night.  LINK

Hah, it's amazing how easy it is to forget that he's still got time and room to fill out.
