The best place to talk about which players will survive the nine hour bus rides of the Sally League.

Don't know where the right place is for this question, but what happened to Juan Minaya?  Don't see him on any of the rosters.

In Luhnow's chat today he was asked about under-the-radar guys from the 2011 draft. His response?

"Davidson. It’s too bad he’s banged up right now because he can flat out hit. I watched him while scouting with the Cardinals last summer and was impressed. I was blown away when I found out how late he was drafted."

I figure he'll be in Lexington once he gets healed up.

Probably not the start, of a repeat year at low A, the Astros were hoping for Mike Kvasnicka, he went 0-13 this weekend with 6 Ks.

DDJr had a nice 5 for 14 start with 2 SBs, also had 2 errors though.

My dad was at the Legends first game in Greensboro the other night, and sent me this analysis during the game, thought I'd pass it along here:

Folty started, went 2 2/3 and gave up 6 runs, maybe 3 earned. He had trouble disguising and locating his off-speed pitches. Did pretty well keeping his fastball low. 90-93 mph. 1st baseman, Zach Johnson, has made several nice fielding plays. CF Drew Muren has made a couple of nice plays and has a great arm.

More of a concern (to me) is that he has mostly appeared at DH.  ??

For anyone who's seen him play, what's the story on Jordan Scott? He looks like he could be a really high AVG/OBP guy, but that won't really cut it in LF. Is there a chance he develops any power? Could he possibly handle CF or another position? Or is he destined to be a bench player?

I don't know much about Scott but I doubt he's a CF option for MMP. This got me to thinking about Terry Puhl. Could he be a regular in the MLs today as a corner outfielder? A fundementally sound ballplayer that hit line drives but not many HRs. And then there's this AL thinggy.

I just looked at the Lex box today. Scott went 1-3 and his Ave. DROPPED to .455.
His slugging % is also .455. He looks like a guy who could make a career out of a reserve position to me.

He showed some pop toward the end of the year last year.  He is young and I think he might have at least some doubles in his bat.

Exactly.

And in an oddly ironic way, moving to the AL may make it more likely that they can carry a guy like him as a corner infielder since the DH does not have to be hidden anywhere in the field.  Doubles power and a high avg/OBP might work out.  And if not, he could still be very serviceable as a 4th OF.

You mean serviceable 4th outfielder like they say JD Martinez may someday become, or actual serviceable 4th outfielder?!?

I am having trouble reliably placing the [sarc] tags above.  I would love to see JD be a 4th OF, because (IMO) he is good enough to be an above-average starter.  If he is #4, that speaks pretty well of the other three.  I would be a bit less excited  about seeing Jordan Scott as #4, but I would be fine with it (assuming continued progrression).

It was sarc related to random Keith Law comments about JD Martinez maybe being a serviceable 4th outfielder.  I'm a fan of the kid, and believe that Law is FOS on this (and a lot of things).  No worries, nothing to see here, carry on...

I figured it was something like that, and I knew for sure the tags were there somewhere ... it was too far out of character to be taken at face value.

I guess I have been ignoring Keith Law for so long that I did not pick up on the reference.

I could see JD as DH and put a guy in LF that covers more ground and is a good On Base guy at the top of the order or even batting 9th.

Wouldn't shock me to see something like that, especially in the first couple of years in the AL. It may be the best way of getting maximum value out of the players currently in the organization. Long-term I'm not sure that'd be the approach (said under the hopeful assumption that they'll have some better bats to work with).

Scott now has 10 singles + 1 double on the year.  Has an additional 6 walks.  Of the 17 times on base, he has scored 8 runs.  He is now hitting an even .500 on the year.

Cue the Jefferson's theme song if he keeps this up.
