I know this isn't Soler related, but who the hell will be the Astros' interleague "rival" next year?

That's a good question.  My guess would be the D'Backs.  Or are they rivaled up with the Rockies?  F those guys for getting to stay in the NL.

There really is no replacement for the Cubs. The teams mentioned (Twins, Royals, M's) would all be high on my list of teams to root for if I were forced to adopt an American League team.  And, well, here we are, forced to adopt an AL team.

Well, there's an obvious team to loathe, but unfortunately, they happen to be good right now.  That's what sucks.  They can't be the Cubs in my book.  They're St. Louis, with Nolan playing the part of LaRussa.

$30M+ They were saying that he has clauses in the contract where he can opt out later in the deal.  He can't leave the Cubs, but he can go through arbitration later on in the deal and make tons more money.

You'd think Soriano would've taught the Cubs a lesson about locking up slugging outfielders for long contracts.

I'm sure they wish Soriano's total contract was a paltry $30mil.

I actually don't think that's so outlandish, if that were the whole deal, 9 yrs/$30mil, but it boils down to pretty much only working in the kid's favor. If he bombs, he's still due $30 million; if he turns into a good player, he can opt out and cash in for at least the last 1-3 years of his deal. The Cubbies don't get much cost certainty out of it.

And I thought Soler's deal was stupid... I still do, but the Dojer's decided to up the FTCs ante with their 7-year $42M signing of Yasiel Puig...

Not baseball, but the Penguins signed Crosby -- what has played about 20 games in the last season and a half because of concussion problems -- to a $100M+, 12-year deal. How do people who are capable something that stupid wind up with so much money in the first place?

This is actually being studied in many of the top business schools. It's known as the McLane Conundrum.
