scouting the sally doesn't like Jio much

Quote
Jiovanni Mier ranks as one of the more disappointing prospects I’ve seen at this point in terms of name value versus tools and production.  I expected to see the next “Nomar”, but Mier fell far short of those expectations in every way except for the physical resemblance.  Going forward, Mier will need to revamp his hitting mechanics to incorporate more lower body and keep his hands inside the ball.  Currently, he projects as a weak hitter with some infield chops, but line drive gap power is not out of the question if everything breaks correctly with his development.

What are the chances Jio repeats Lexington next year?

I would guess a good year could have propelled him to CC next year, but now Lancaster is the more realistic step?

I would expect the logical step will be Lancaster.  There was some talk prior to the season about sending him straight to Lancaster but it looks like Lexington was a good place for him to learn.  Let's hope the last two months of the season show some development.

Astros County's best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who heard that JD Martinez is packing for Corpus tonight. I guess it's pretty serious.  AC Twitter LINK

In other words, could be...

@StreetJL Is this serious enough for you? http://twitpic.com/25ogv3

I'm guessing JD is, in fact, headed to Corpus...

I wonder what this means for Shuck, Steele, and Gaston. Or Clemens. Wasn't there talk that Martinez does not look like a decent outfielder, and might have to be moved to 1B? Or was that Gaston...?

Was just looking at Martinez's stats and right now he's played in exactly 160 games as a minor leaguer, and has 125 R, 120 RBI, 27 HR and about a .350 AVG. Here's hoping he keeps it up.

Levine referred to his defense in the OF along the lines of being 'an adventure' (very poor reads on balls).  No idea on the rest, though Steele is on the 7-day DL (7/8).

Profile piece on Jio in the SAL Notebook: LINK

Mier has looked like a different hitter since the SAL All-Star Game on June 22. Legends manager Rodney Linares moved him from the two hole to seventh in the batting order in June. In the first 19 games of the second half, he has hit .286 with 11 RBIs and belted his lone home run of the year. More important, Mier looks more confident and is focusing on improving on a daily basis, instead of simply treading water around the Mendoza line.

"He's driving the ball much more consistently," Linares said. "It seemed like he was always hitting behind in the count and struggling to get anything to hit while hitting higher in the lineup. It was probably a case of him thinking too much up there at the plate."

Additionally, OSC reporting that Martinez is heading to Corpus. LINK

The Legends learned after the game that outfielder J.D. Martinez, who leads the South Atlantic League in eight offensive categories, is being promoted to Corpus Christi, the double-A affiliate of the Legends' parent club, the Houston Astros.

Nice outing by Cruz. 10K. 0BB. 7.2 innings.

Another from that draft class showing promise. The improvement from TP to Wade/Heck is pretty abrupt.

So Villar is now on the Lexington roster.   What does this mean for Mier?

He's being sent to Lancaster.  The move to the Lex roster online I believe had to do with just moving him to the Astros affiliate at the same level before his final destination was known to those web guys.

Thanks.  Figured one would be moving there.

Will be interesting to see where both end up to start next season, would the odds favor both staying where they are at, Villar at LAN and Mier at LEX?
