This sounds much creepier than I'm sure it is.

If the poster in question was JohnDoe then we'd have a real problem on our hands.

While we're on the topic of parenting, Dan Carlin's "Hardcore History" podcast has an interesting take on the history of parenting.  He contends that up until very recently, entire generations of children grew up abused.  It's episode 31-I found it very interesting.  And if you like history, you should listen to a couple of his podcasts, he has a unique perspective.

I just read this post, so I obviously haven't checked out the podcast yet, but what pisses me off is how the term "abuse" is used nowadays. Having a firm attitude with your kids and being a stern disciplinarian isn't abuse, although some people will try to make you think it is.

That's just a generic comment on the usage of the word "abuse," not on the podcast or Dan Carlin.

The podcast has nothing to do with being firm your kids, or even hitting them with a belt.  Read my second post.  It's about abuses throughout history.

You know... he really stated the obvious.  1) Make sure you are measuring what you think you are measuring; 2) put it in context.   Those two things are easier said than done.  As an analyst in a past life, there is some appeal in studying that.  However, I just enjoy watching the game, studying what pitchers do, how hitters handle adjustments.  But that's just me.  Enjoy the game however you so choose.

eta:  I also like watching the defense, but TV camera angles are terrible from that perspective.  Most of the time, the defensive play is framed so it's near impossible to know exactly where they are at on the field, or how they got there etc...  I used to love the Adam Everett replays that would show him swinging behind the bag on a hit up the middle, dragging his right hand like he was surfing the perfect wave, to make the catch, take the ball from the glove and throw a laser to 1B.  A real thing of beauty....  I hope we see some of those defensive gems this year.

When we talked to Bagwell at Astroline in Florida, the one thing I made sure to tell him was how much I missed his leadership on the team.  He seemed geniunely pleased by the compliment.

Bagwell is also a bit of a flirt.  He seems like a guy I wish would hang out with us for game watches.

I won't lie.  It's taken the better part of my adult life to fully appreciate these attributes and their value.  These attributes are painfully absent in corporate America, but not because there aren't individuals who possess them.  It's simply because corporate America does not encourage nor cultivate this attribute in this day and age.

It saddens me that whatever he had at the plate in 05 he lost.  If he'd kept his hitting together, he'd still be on the hot corner and the clubhouse leader.

i'd love to see his assessment of the early part of his rookie season where he was made the opening day third baseman somewhat out of nowhere, then he spent the first month changing his stance about 50 million times before being demoted to AAA

Did you read the part where he describes how he gets ready as an announcer and then what he does afterwords? Pretty much explains it if you ask me.

just read it, and i think this was his routine:  do a ton of thinking about the game, then STOP THINKING, then bring reminders of my bad habits and put them right in front of my face to remind me not to do it, then pay lots of attention to the production crew talking in my ear and maybe even have a conversation with them while the game's going on, then HAVE FUN, then when the game's over spend a lot of time evaluating my mistakes, then, oh shit, 3-2 count, i'll probably get his best fastball on the outside corner because that's what my research has shown him to throw most often in this situation, but he probably knows that i know what he's likely to throw so he won't throw it, or maybe he will because he knows i know he won't do what he knows i know, OH SHIT HERE COMES THE PITCH WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO?  No, don't curse!, my grandpa and bagwell told me that professionals shouldn't curse!  (pitch is a curve just off the plate.  ump calls ball, and morgan walks to first base.  bases are now loaded with two outs and chris burke coming up to bat).
