Picked up a 12 pack this afternoon.
If you aren't a pilsner fan, I don't know if this is going to change your mind.
But if you are, it's pretty freakin outstanding.

Where did you pick it up? Any chance it's in the Austin HEBs?

Got some (at the same HEB, no less) last night. Possibly the best pilsner I've ever had, unseating Urquell. Has that distinctive Shiner malty finish, but light and crisp otherwise.

Still not to be found here. The guy at Spec's said he'd have some on Thursday.
HEB looked like they were sold out - there was a empty slot in the beer cooler marked "Shiner Seasonal".

Point of Order: Shouldn't Shiner 101, be Shiner Bock?

I've been alternating back and forth between 101 and Bock trying to decipher this. I'll let you know if I get any insights. That 101 is *good* though.

Limey was just following Lurch's line of thinking.

I like the 101, but I think I like the Fröst better.

Excellent stuff, and I'm not a huge pilsner fan. Better than the Urquell we get here, and better than what I recall the non-export Urquel' I got from Prague.

You should not have been drinking Plzenský in Prague ... not with the excellent black lager from U Fleků or U Svateho Tomašu available. Headed there in 5 more days. Ummm.

We had an exchange student from Prague; haven't been there myself. She got us a couple 4 packs of half liter bottles of Urquell, plus what she called "real Budweiser". The Czech Budweiser bears no resemblance to the American stuff.

I tried some of this over the weekend. It was far from bad, but it didn't really stand out to me. My favorite pilsner lately has ben the Oscar Blues Mama's Little Yella Pills (currently available in both can and on draft at the Saucer).

Still called Budweiss over here. And both Budweiss (from the Czech-German town of Budweiss/Budejovice) & Prazdroj (the real name of Urquell, the original Pilsner ... the name means "proto-spring") are very good. Just not as good as the black lagers originating from Prague and points north. 4 more days. Meanwhile, the Gösser and Ottakringer here in Vienna will have to do.
