Astros at Reds: Berkmanian Crapsody

Posted by Limey On April - 26 - 2009

Is this the real life
Is this just fantasy

Real life?  No.  Fantasy?  Only if you actually know how to say “FLŰGGÅƏNK∂€ČHIŒβØL∫ÊN”, but would choose not to.  For the record, that word can only be said in Cincinnati, as it is the particular sound made when one passes out in a bowl of skyline chili and starts snoring.

Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality

No doubt.

Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see

Yikes

Yikes

Actually, this is a bad idea.  The Astros are heading back on the road, and cruising into the hideous Tammy Faye Bakker Stadium for a three-game set with the Reds.  This after an long and frustrating homestand which yielded four wins and six losses, a near-perfect sub-set of their 7-12 season record.  Moreover, this included losing 3 of 4 to these same Reds, who went on to take two of three in Chicago before dropping two of three at home to the Politically Insensitives of Atlanta.

The SnS selection for Astros Player of the Month (April)

Posted by Noe in Austin On April - 26 - 2009

papa-grande-on-one-legAs we round into the last week of the first month of the MLB season, it’s time for SpikesnStars to look back and select our “Player of the Month”.  The SnS APOTM is selected not only for good to great play on and maybe off the field, but for many other factors, Spikes’nStar’s style.  First order of business for us though was naming this award to add significance to the trophy we might shell out some cayshe to purchase and award to our selection.  Would it be the coveted Zipper award?  How about giving someone an Arky?  How about the getting a Craig?  Something has to ring a bell soon enough for us to go out and have the trophy manufactured for us.  Give it some thought and get back to us in the TalkZone on that one. Necessity is the Mother of Promotion

Posted by Duman On April - 26 - 2009

With Quintero on the DL with a shoulder injury.  Catchers all over the Astros minor league system were moving up to cover J. R. Towles’ promotion to Houston.  Brian Esposito was called up from Corpus to take Towles’ spot in Round Rock.  Corpus was already down Lou Palmisano who is on the DL, recieved Koby Clemens to join Jonathan Fixler, who has appeared in just 4 games since getting called up to take Palmisano’s place.  Clemens open spot in Lancaster was filled by  Jordan Comandena, who just joined Lexington from Extended Spring Training when Fixler was called up to Corpus Christi and had only appeared in 3 games for Lexington.  While this shuffle is temporary and all or most of it will be undone when either Q or Palmisano comes off the DL.  In the mean time,  it will be interesting to see how the Koby/Fixler tandem works out in Corpus.
