Caribbean Update

Here is the latest from the tropical climates.

Mexico

Tomateros de Culiacan

John Gall- OF- Recently signed to minor league contract. Through 12/30 he was hitting .306 with 1 HR, his season is over as the Tomateros didn’t make the playoffs.

Puerto Rico

Gigantes de Carolina – didn’t make the playoffs
Tyler Lumsden, LHP – his last 3 outings were solid going a combined 4 1/3 innings giving up 3 hits, 2 walks and no runs while fanning 3. This dropped his ERA down to 6.87 for the winter season.

Lobos de Arecibo – made playoffs
Edwin Maysonet, SS – his average has dipped down to .278 on the season by hitting .243 over his last 10 days. He has 4 errors in the field. He hasn’t seen action in the playoffs.

Leones de Ponce – made playoffs, won regular season
Rene Garcia, C – has not played

Reggie Abercrombie, OF – has been feast or famine. Went from 0-10 in 3 games to 5 for 8 in the next two. Has K’d 10 times in last 36 AB. He hasn’t played since 1/5.

Indios de Mayaguez – made playoffs
Carlos Lazu, LHP – has not played.

Criollos de Cagues – didn’t make playoffs
Luis Cruz, LHP – made his first appearance since 11/7 on 1/5. Went 2/3 of an inning giving up no runs but 1 hit and 1 walk.

VENEZUELA
Caribes del Anzotegul – didn’t make playoffs
Paul Estrada, RHP – Season line: 2 1/3 IP, 6 hits, 4 earned runs, 2 BB, 2 K.

Navegantes del Magallanes – didn’t make playoffs
Luis Alvarez, C – VSL 18 year old on roster but hasn’t played.

Wladamir Sutil, IF – Is being used as a pinch hitter and runner a lot. In 26 games he has only had 45 AB. Hitting .311 with a double and a homer.

Aquilas de Zulia – made playoffs
Humberto Quintero, C – Is playing regularly now. Has hit .353 over last 10 games of regular season. Finished with 16 K’s in 88 AB.

Jeiler Castillo, RHP – hasn’t pitched in quite sometime.

Bravos de Margarita – didn’t make playoffs
Felipe Paulino, RHP – has not played

Tigres de Aragua – made playoffs
Pedro Gonzalez, C – Got some action at the end of the season he went 2 for 4 with a double in 2 games.

Cardenales de Lara – made playoffs
Fernando Nieve, RHP – changed teams right at the end of the season. Season line: 5.02 ERA, in 13 games with 7 saves. 16 strike outs in 14 1/3 IP with only one walk.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Aguilas Cibaenas – In the playoffs
Sergio Severino, LHP – Hasn’t pitched since 11/14. Season line: 6 IP, ERA 6.00, 6 BB, 6 K, 7 Hits, 4 Earned Runs

Jose Duran RHP – Has not played

Michael Bourn – Season average is .314 and OBP is .402. Strike outs are high at 24 out of 102 AB. OBP ended up at .402.

J. R. Towles – Hit .294 in 8 games (17 AB) with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. 2 Walks and 2 Strike outs.

Azucareros del Este – In the playoffs
Fernando Abad, LHP – Season line: 2 1/3 IP, 2 hits, no runs allowed, 2 K

Gigantes de Cibao – in the playoffs
Erick Abreu, RHP – Finished season appearing in 4 games. His line 3 1/3 IP, 4 earned runs, 5 K, 4 BB, 3 hits.

Jose Capellan, RHP – Appeared in 8 games (10 IP). Had 10 K’s and only 1 BB but gave up 11 hits.

Jhon Florentino, 3B – Hit .385 for season in limited action.

Tigres del Licey – In the playoffs
Alberto Arias, RHP – On the season 4.15 ERA with 22 K in 17 1/3 IP.

Sammy Gervacio, RHP – Season line: 17 games (10 2/3 IP), ERA 6.75, 13 hits, 0 HR, 4 BB, 12 K.

Yordany Ramirez, OF – finished with a .245 average. He didn’t take a walk in 49 at bats.

Polin Trinidad – Season line: 2 IP (6 games – two games he didn’t retire a batter), 5 hits, 2 BB, 1 K, ERA 22.50
