The Astros got behind early and failed to capitalize on several scoring chances late in the game, losing game one of the 2005 World Series 5-3 to the Sox at Comiskey Park.

Starting pitcher Roger Clemens lasted only 2 innings, allowing 3 runs and leaving due to soreness in his left hamstring. Rookie Wandy Rodriquez took over and allowed a single run in 3 1/3 innings, getting out of trouble every inning due to 5 walks and 4 hits. Chad Qualls escaped a major jam in the 6th, then pitched a scoreless 7th. Russ Springer allowed an insurance run to the Pale Hose in the 8th to sum up the pitching.

Willy Taveras clubbed a pair of doubles leading off the 6th and 8th innings, but failed to score both times. Lance Berkman had a pair of hits, one from each side of the plate, including a 2-run double in the 3rd to tie the game at 3 all. The Astros scored their first run in the second inning with a solo bomb by Mike Lamb.

The Astros struck out 5 times in the 8th and 9th, sending the crowd home happy. Game 2 tomorrow.
