Andy Pettitte outdueled Astro nemesis Tom Glavine in a classic pitchers matchup Saturday evening at MMPUS, winning his ninth decision 2-0 with eight strong innings of shutout ball. Brad Lidge finished the combined whitewash and earned his 26th save of the season. Read the rest of this entry »

No sweep in Washington, Astros lose 4-2

The Astros and starter Brandon Backe gave up all four runs for the Nationals in the first inning, three on a bases-loaded misjudged fly ball to center field that fell for a bases clearing double, and Nats starter Tony Armas Jr. threw no-hit ball for 5 1/3 innings as the Astros fell 4-2. The Dunn Effect II

A question was recently posted about Dunn’s propensity to hit sacrifice flies. After all, somebody with Dunn’s power should be able to drive the ball deep when the need arises. Yet Dunn has just one sacrifice fly this season. Is this simply a matter of having few opportunities or not being able to adapt to the situation?
