It’s with a great amount of amusement that I’ve been monitoring the meltdowns in the TalkZone and other boards since the Astros played their way out of the postseason over the weekend, much to the glee talking heads and politicians across the land…heck, Hillary Clinton might dust off her Cubs hat again. For the second consecutive playoff-less season in a row, much handwringing and consternation has occurred in response to the plight of the Houston nine.  This, of course, is completely different than the handwringing and consternation that happens when the Astros make the playoffs and different still from the handwringing and consternation that occurs five days later when the the NLDS is over. During my enforced absence from the TZ at the end of the season (no, I was not sulking or crying in a corner) I’m sure you’ve all picked clean the bones of the Astros’ unsuccessful 2003 campaign. I have read a little of what’s been posted but, after perusing the recent ZipperFlap, I decided that plowing through all of it would be futile, painful and probably not a little annoying. That’s not to say that I think you lot are full of it and that I’m the only one with the answers. It’s simply that I have confidence that those debates which could come to a conclusion have done so without my assistance or interference; and those that haven’t probably never will.

Now that the Astros are done for 2003, things have quieted down here at OWA.  Of course, we haven?t quite approached The Void yet, so all the offseason banter has yet to get fired up.  Hopefully, however, the post-choke whining is over with, and if it?s not, then we?ll try to make sure that you don?t have to read it.
